As an instructor, I am always looking for more training in all areas of my teaching and especially for teaching breast cancer survivors, however traveling to NYC for these trainings is not always feasible for most of us.
My suggestion and hope would be that the training for breast cancer survivors could also be offered online, maybe through the yogabear site for those of us who can't afford to travel plus pay for the conference. Charging an affordable fee for an "online training" for those interested in this opportunity to get further training in BCS. Maybe the one Tara is doing in NYC could be taped and then offered online after the conference?
What a wonderful opportunity this would be for so many instructors out there with the same passion we all have, working with BCS!
Peace & Love,
Lynn

1. a class to film (we can ask Tari about her class)
2. a volunteer film-maker
and we can take care of releases, as well as posting the videos to our site.

I'm thrilled by the response from each of you who have shown interest in this idea and hope we get more people on board with this.
Thank you all!!!
Hi Lynn,
Is the teacher training available online? That would be awesome!

It has been something I've been considering doing and have worked to get certified as an E-RTY500, which I just completed.
However, there are no 'official' certifications from Yoga Alliance for Yoga for Cancer Survivors. Researching the teacher is the only way to know if the training is appropriate.
Soon, I will be teaching a weekend intensive in San Diego and I may consider having it taped. I do think some portion of a class with a live instructor is beneficial. If you can attend some YCS classes in a hospital or studio, you can also see different formats.
The other way to go would be to get the 70 Hour Silver Age Yoga Training which is on-line and already set up. I started with this training because cancer survivors have many of the same issues of seniors: range of motion, balance, blood pressure issues, bone and joint pain and a need for meditation and breathing practices that are safe. Most of the yoga for breast cancer survivors is adaptive yoga, with an emphasis on chest expanders, shoulders and range of motion (think Iyengar blocks and straps).
The yoga I teach is geared toward patients in active treatment or long-term treatment and is more meditative.Knowing the population of survivors you want to work with is a great start.
Blessings!
Jean
I couldnt agree more!!!
