Welcome! Yes, I teach a weekly class at a local YMCA. Currently, I have 20 members, some are in treatment, some are returning to treatment, and some have been NED for many years.
I use a restorative class model and focuses on breathing and relaxing. Some students come just to nap! I love to hold a space where healing can happen in any form.
Tell me (us) more about your work!
BLessings,
Jean
Thanks for your reply. I'm just starting to teach survivors, I have been teaching yoga for a couple
of years, and this pass summer took an intensive training to teach survivors, so I'm still new at
this, but so passionate about this new path of teaching I have chosen. I want to connect with
those who currently teach sharing our experiences and resources with each other.
What is NED? How long have you been teaching survivors? What props do you use if any?
Blessings,
Lyn

Isn't this a great resource? I love this group!
I teach weekly classes as well as periodic workshops. These are for people with current diagnosis, survivors and caregivers. My classes are presented as a "yoga buffet" of restorative, yin, gentle and some strengthening poses; I remind everyone that they are not obligated to try it all, only what is appropriate for what they feel they need that day.
Yoga provides us all with such great tools for self care: breath, awareness and reflection. These tools are especially necessary for anyone living with cancer.
My best to you on your journey as well.
Namaste,
Lorien
Yes this is GREAT! Love it, and so glad to have found this site. What kind of workshops have you
done? I like the "yoga buffet" and your reminder to only do what is appropriate for what they need
that day, like!
I agree yoga is absolutely full of wonderful tools for self care, so true.
Thanks so much for replying and I look forward to staying connected to all of you through this
journey we are on as yoga teachers.
Blessings,
Lynn

Hi Susan,
How long have you been teaching survivors, and what techniques do you use?

I am a Patient Navigator at Community Hospital in Monterey. I started using yoga with my clients on a one to one basis three years ago. It was one tool I could offer them to get through their cancer journey. The practice is Restorative with a flow at the beginning using movement and breath to warm up the body. Everyone's experience is different....some have had reconstruction, some treatment and others on hormonal therapy so I adjust accordingly. They all like Viparita Karani. I have given one workshop and am planning more. It is very rewarding.
Susan
Thanks Susan for your email, I so appreciate others knowlege in this and love to be connected to others who are teaching to survivors as well.
