When the Practice Gets Tough, The Tough Take a Break

Here's a little secret, dear yogis and yoginis: I've been seriously slacking on my yoga practice these days. Lots of things have come into play: work is really busy these days, my knee is injured, I'm tired, it's cold out, I'd rather go home and eat Annie's Mac & Cheese while watching "Project Runway." I just can't muster up the energy to practice. What I struggle with is this: is my body telling me it's time to rest, or am I relying on excuses to keep me from what yoga is all about - the… Continue

More Stars Ditching Fame For Forearm Stand

Last week I was all excited because my NYC buddy Jay-Z was talking to the press about his desire to take up yoga. This week we've got more A-listers who are embracing the asana practice, and I couldn't be more excited. Basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal showed up at a class in his Cleveland neighborhood recently, and is now taking to the practice as part of his… Continue

Jay-Z The Next Celebrity Yogi?

I just arrived back home in Brooklyn, and blasted Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" on repeat the entire drive. It's a bit of an anthem here in the Big Apple - the song celebrates our fair city and everything special about it. So I was pleasantly surprised to come across this recent interview with the hip-hop mogul, in which he reveals that he's eager to get on a yoga mat. Apparently his pal, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin (aka Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow) has turned him on to the… Continue

Delving Into Seane Corn's Wise Words On Fear, Surrender And Yoga

In my previous post I linked to an interview with yoga teacher Seane Corn, and I was so profoundly moved by her words that I thought I'd focus a bit more on it today. If you haven't had a chance to listen to the clip in its entirety I highly suggest you do so if you can find a few minutes (I did my laundry to it today - hurray for multitasking).… Continue

Weekly Wisdom On The Web

Hello YogaBear friends! Here's a quick look at some cool things to check out on the web this week:

* A great article in the New York Times about women creating small empires around self-help and healing.

* R.I.P. Patrick Swayze. The actor lost his battle with pancreatic cancer but left behind a bevy of… Continue

Hi Kate,
Welcome!
Yes, I so agree!
I was a caregiver for my mom until her death January 2008. We did our own little yoga while she was in her 'chair': a great big lounger. But my mom would giggle, wiggle and we took as many breaths together as we could. I miss her . But yoga helped us both. It stills helps me everyday.
There are several new Brooklyn yogini's...does your studio provide a weekly class?

Blessings,
jean
