I am an MSSW student at the University of Texas at Austin! I am excited to be working with Yoga Bear to support yoga in the psychosocial oncology community.

Hi Kristin,
This sounds like a great resource for students and instructors. Halle and Kelly would know the best studios to contact. If there is anything I can do to assist, I've been teaching survivors for three years at a class I started for survivors at the YMCA in San Diego. I have spoken with many yoga teachers that are survivors , we are all so different in our philosophies and approaches. This is actually a benefit to students because finding a 'match' to their needs is essential. It might be good to focus on survivors defining their needs and then having a suggestion of yoga styles that they might try. Developing checklists and self-evaluations with specific suggestions can help the newer yoga student, who may be lost in the 'sea' of choices. As students define their goals for themselves, their choices may widen, but it depends on their needs. The benefits that yoga offers: breath work, concentration, flexibility, stamina and strength, relaxation/meditation - to me, is a guide that I use for myself (each day) as I choose the type of practice that suits me 'today'.
I am looking forward to seeing what you develop!
Blessings,
Jean
Dear Kristin,
Welcome to YB and Thank YOU! There are so many benefits to yoga and as a survivor, it is my passion to bring this hope to other survivors. What area of research are you doing?
Blessings,
Jean
