I am very interested in your work in Monroe. I am currently doing a research study out of SUNY Stony Brook involving breast cancer survivors who practice yoga. I was wondering if I could talk to you or mail you information about the study.
Laurie - Prior to my diagnosis with breast cancer, I practiced vinyasa yoga. So I continued with vinyasa yoga throughout my treatment. Although I practiced at home and could take lots of breaks and rests whenever I felt it was too much. During chemo, I only practiced about 20 minutes because I didn't have the energy.
I've recently done some research on the benefits of yoga to the lymphatic system. When I had the breast surgery and removal of some lymph nodes under my armpit, I had some lymphatic build up (lymphedema) in my arm which was quite painful. So I forced myself to do lots of arm stretching type moves (with encouragement from my surgeon to do so) and it really helped. Today I no full range of movement, no more pain, no more lymphedema.
I hope this helps!! I wish I lived closer to LA so I could visit your yoga studio!!
