How do find a good yoga teacher?

Classes are expensive! I can't just keep going to a new class until I find the right teacher. Is there a website or anywhere that ranks teachers? Continue

Overcoming Illness with Love and Positivity

I recently read Dr. Bernie Siegels book “Love, Medicine and Miracles” about how love, caring, and the will to get better can actually cure illness. He relates countless stories from his twenty years of experience as a physician where some patients, due to their positive attitude recovered faster than those who lacked such hope and interest in life. He revolutionizes the relationship between the doctor and patient to bring a far better… Continue

Thank you very much for your comment, Regina. The Santa Monica/West Los Angeles Wellness Community has a lot of yoga classes and other mind/body classes, which are free for members. It's a good resource for those struggling with cancer (and for those of us who want to help).

Thank you so much for the very warm welcome Regina. I wish I could view the video's and pod casts but I live in a very rural area and we only have dial-up internet here at home. There is news of high speed coming by summer's end...woo-hoo! I'm looking into all the yoga classes we have here in my community; I never knew there were so many different kinds/types of yoga either.

I've been skimming through all the comments/blogs and wow....what a wonderful and inspirational group of folks. As for your post on Dr. Siegel's book; I had also read his book while going through treatment and a number of others on that same subject. And it's very true, a positive attitude does make a huge difference on how we recover. I know for myself, I pretty much laughed and joked my way through it all. The old saying "Laughter is the best medicine" is not just a joke; it's also been proven through many studies.

Looking forward to getting know everyone,
Blessings to you all,
Ria (Maria)

Let me respond by saying that choosing a yoga mat while waiting on line at a major super market chain in NYC, and seeing yoga-specific clothing brands become defacto workout and active wear, yoga is revolutionizing our lives on a social, physical, spiritual, and economic level, to name a few. Suddenly it is being embraced by everyone but the most stubborn, conservative, and indifferent.

Hello
I am surviving melanoma stage four, thanks to Interluken 2, and breast cancer thanks to double mastectomy. Yoga is giving me back my energy and my ranges of motion. S l o w l y. I do some every day and my goal is to do a head stand by my 70th birthday next December. Ha ha

Good for you doing it at home. I go to classes. And I let myself cry when I want to.
