Jean Di Carlo Wagner asked a thought-provoking question in a discussion: What do you think is the most important thing to tell yoga teachers about teaching cancer survivors?
Drawing on my own experience as a survivor - I would tell yoga teachers to remember to maintain a sense of
safety within the yoga class.
For me, when I received my diagnosis it felt as if the floor had just dropped out from under me and I was hanging by an invisible…

No replies are 'out of order', we share from our hearts...always a space for that! Yes, I feel so blessed to be sharing yoga, doing work that is both meaningful and joyful to me, seeing the whole of life....the spectrum of all emotions...and keeping the Light of the greater purpose of our souls. Namaste, Jean
Congratulations on completing your 200hr training and the beginning of teaching yoga! On the
Home Page of YB, go to "Groups", click on it and all the groups will appear...there's one for
"instructors"!
I was a Resource Specialist for 28 years! I taught all age groups, and especially loved to 'catch' the little guys before they had big problems. I was teaching when diagnosed, stage iiic, cc....looked grim...I retired early. But, I 'got better'...and thought? Now what? For a year, I thought of what it was I could do and during that time, I was struggling to return to my pre-cancer workouts: low impact, weights, and yoga. There wasn't a class gentle enough for me and one day it dawned on me that I could help others by creating a 'bridge to wellness' with gentle yoga.
Now, it's seems that it was an obvious progression, but then, I felt lost....my identity as a teacher gone..my wellness...gone...and my life expectancy not so long! But, I'm still here!
My class design is based around the needs of someone in treatment or early recovery.
Oh! I see you are in Burbank...you might like to join the LA Chapter of YB....they are active and fun!
Thanks for asking....Blessings, Namaste, Jean
