A Practice for Change in the New Year

A Practice for Change in the New Year

It’s time for New Year’s Resolutions – those passionate, determined, optimistic, and sometimes desperate pledges we make to change ourselves. How do we get from where we are to where we want to be, without… Continue

A Workout That Makes You Smile

By Karen Bossick of Times-News

It’s one workout where you can’t scowl.

After all, you can’t do laughing exercises with a frown on your face.

The workout is known as laughter yoga. And it’s got a number of Wood River Valley residents waving their arms as if they were elephant trunks, flitting from one corner of the room to… Continue

Thanks for the comments about my profile photo! I started practicing yoga at the request of my oncologist - integrative medicine. Without cancer, I would not have found yoga. Every cloud has a silver lining!

I teach cancer survivors yoga at the Pink Ribbon Yoga retreat in August on the beach in NC. This is our 6th year. I believe it's no different from teaching anyone yoga. You make sure you're aware of any issues they are dealing with, you instruct them to honor their bodys and you present the class with love and compassion. I usually do a gentle class with very little forward bending. Most of our participants are mature women who have had breast cancer and may have other physical challenges. The retreat is well attended and has received very high ratings by the attendees. Last year 100% of the ladies reported a reduction in stress and pain levels.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get accepted into one of the yoga studios in NYC or Jersey City area? I know there is a wait list which I signed up for but if anyone knows how long the wait is...I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Well -- I'm not sure why Yoga Bear requested me as a friend, but okay! I'm now officially a friend of Yoga Bear.

It's my pleasure. I'm actually looking to branch out and teach in studios in NYC. Are you aware of any studios that are hiring? Thanks for the lovely feedback!
