Hannah is a two year old Corgie who flops over on her back to rest , just about whenever she had enough of what's going on, it's her built in 'time out'. Buddy, our 12 year old Golden, loves Hannah and respects her time in "Savasana" by giving her space. Not only are Buddy and Hannah a good reminder of staying in the moment, but their unconditional love for life is contagious. So, last week, when biopsy reports came in that Buddy has a cancerous growth on his leg, and his kidneys are in early stages of failure. We had a lot to consider. After some computer research, I found that Golden's have a long history of developing cancer, so much so, that researchers at Texas A & M have developed drugs which may have promise for breast cancer patients. Buddy could have surgery, but he would likely limp, and at 125 pounds, he needs his leg muscles. He could have chemo and radiation, but the suffering does not balance out in our minds. For now, he is happy, eats well, loves Hannah, and takes every moment of bliss. Either way, Buddy prognosis is about a year or so. This is another lesson in being present, here and now. Honoring our
deepest desire to give Buddy the best years of his life, as we rescued him from a neglectful owner at age seven. Whenever I lay down and do Savasana, Buddy tends to lie down next to me, eventually succumbing to the softer energy of meditation. A time to contemplate the temporary nature of life.
