I just arrived back home in Brooklyn, and blasted Jay-Z
's "Empire State of Mind" on repeat the entire drive. It's a bit of an anthem here in the Big Apple - the song celebrates our fair city and everything special about it. So I was pleasantly surprised to come across this recent interview with the hip-hop mogul, in which he reveals that he's eager to get on a yoga mat. Apparently his pal, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin
(aka Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow
) has turned him on to the ancient practice. "Chris hasn't tried to get me to do yoga yet but I am close to doing it," says Jay
. "I'm envious of what he can do on stage. Watching him is amazing, he can really move. I want to be able to move like that, get my leg behind my ear, things like that."
Celebs like Russell Simmons
and Christy Turlington
have long heralded the power of yoga, but it's been a while since someone with Jay-Z's star power has discussed a desire to get into downward facing dog (we haven't seen a A-List yogi since Madonna
and her infamous beefed up arms). I'm kinda curious as to what kind of effect that could have. Are you a fan of celebrities who blab about their yoga obsession, or do you think it overshadows and takes away from what's really at the core of the practice?
