Dr. Oz had a segment on his show Wednesday evening about preventing cancer through a healthy lifestyle: staying active (which we promote with yoga), as well as a balanced diet. He named off some of the best foods to prevent 1/3 cancers.
FIGHTING 5: 5 servings of fruits & vegetables. For example
1 cup of greens
1 cup broccoli
1 tomato
1 orange
1 cup strawberries
Carrots, tomatoes, oranges, strawberries, and onions fight lung, ovarian, breast, prostate, esophageal cancers.
Tumor Torpedoes: 3 servings of whole grains fight colon, breast, and pancreatic cancer.
Cell Commando Foods: Proteins such as salmon and soy. Fights prostate, colon, uterine, and breast cancer.
Fire Fighters are herbs & spices. Fights gastric, kidney, prostate, breast, lung cancers.
Know how to arrange your plate! Half of your plate should be vegetables/fruits. Broccoli was said to be one of the best veggies to have on your plate. 1/4 of your plate should be your whole grains, and another 1/4 should be your protein such as chicken, fish, or lean beef. You can leave a sliver of your plate for your guilty pleasure.
