The government just announced the
Recovery Act, which means a few things for preventative medicine. First, starting in January, anyone on Medicare will receive no-cost preventive services including breast cancer screenings. Second, the Act will support preventive medicine residency programs in med school, with $9M given to schools of public health and medicine.
So what is preventive medicine?Preventive Medicine looks at the body as a whole,
rather than at the individual parts of the body. It incorporates decisions made about healthy eating, mental well-being, environment, and hygiene. Measures to treat the whole body include yoga, massage, diet, herbal remedies, sleep tracking, and more. Preventive medicine does not promise to eliminate or prevent diseases; rather, it focuses on being the healthiest you possible, both physically and mentally.
What do you do to improve your vibrancy and quality of health?
