Good guess Jean. Halle is my youngest brother's youngest daughter, and she is quite an amazing young lady. The more I learn about the more
I see the value of YogaBear, and I want to see if we can sign up a studio
or two in the small town where I am. The high incidence of cancer even
in the mountains of Colorado never ceases to amaze, so I appreciate what
you and everyone like you are doing to help others.
Hi Jean- So happy to hear you liked the card and paper tiger! I have been going through an emotional roller coaster lately. My oncologist says I am considered "high risk" (22% chance) of reoccurrence, so he recommends chemo, raditation, hormones. I wasn't expecting to do the chemo- and am quite scared about it. Plus I have hair down to my waist and am a hula dancer- so my hair has always been a big part of my identity. It's very emotional for me. I am trying to seek a 2nd opinion- and hope to get one from an integrative oncologist this wek. i will have to decide very soon- so I'm going thru a lot right now. Trying to stay centered and not panicked! It's a challenging balance to be prepared for the worst, yet stay positive at the same time. I've been doing research on food as medicine, taking classes on immunity, things I can do for myself to counteract possible side effects. If I have to do the chemo- Im thinking I want to cut my hair short- to just get used to having short hair, look for a wig, and be prepared for that. anyway, as you can see from this message- my thoughts are kind of all over the place at the moment.-Andra
hello Jean,
we have a hatha yoga based yoga studio. our teachers have trainings in white lotus (flow), Rasa, Anusara, Iyengar...but not enough to call our classes that. We like to blend them all, it seems to work for our clients. We have Gentle yoga-Flow yoga, pilates, kids and big prenatal classes.
take care,
peace
I've been on travel for work and am just getting back to my routine. I still have not settled on a studio and am looking forward to the adventure. Thanks for the YMCA recommendation!

I will be starting to teach in the Richmond which is closer to your daughter soon. I'll keep you posted~!~
Looks like you do some amazing work! Is there a spot I can view a snippit of your CD?
Hi Jean- Thank you for all your feedback and support! I will send Halle my address- thanks for offering the CD! I am taking a Restorative Movement class with the Cancer Resource Center and that is with a Feldenkris practioner (Alice Brydges at UCSF). I went to my first class yesterday and felt a difference already. My dizziness mainly happens if i move too fast or if I bend down with my head lower than my torso (I have to rise up very slowly). Ive always been one to get car sick/motion sickness prior to my diagnosis- so I realize my system is very sensitve right now. You are really right on when you also mentioned about being okay in mind and spirit of where I am at the moment. I am reading Buddhist's Pema Chodron's "Start Where You Are" which I find fitting to read for me. Thanks again!-Andra
Hi Jean, Thanks for getting in touch with me. I just had a lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy a month ago. My right arm/body is increasingly more flexible- yet I am still experiencing some challenges with balance and also dizziness /nausea when I do gentle yoga (any positions with head downwards).
I am learning that I'm still needing to be gentle with myself in my recovery and also may have low
blood pressure due to my surgery. I am awaiting my next mtg with my oncologist (on 5/26) about my radiation treatments, and if I will need chemo and hormone therapy. It is my concern that since I am already so sensitive to motion /feeling dizzy-nausea now- that it will be worse when I start my treatments. Any input as to support suggestions to help my balance, etc would be appreciated. Thank
you!-Andra
Hi Jean,
Thanks for the note. I googled Y.E.S.org and liver cancer support but no results returned info. Do you have some other contact info?
Cheers,

Hi Jean
I'm planning to visit one studio in Brooklyn before settling on a place to take yoga. My local Y also offers it so I may end up there. I loved yoga back in college and off and on over the years; am looking forward to getting back to it.
Hi Jean,
I like Power Yoga in Santa Monica on 2nd Street. I am not sure if they participate in the Yoga Bear program, but they are a donations based studio. I also am fond of Exhale studio on Main Street, which is in cycling distance of Venice. My favorite teachers there are Jamie Elmer & Hala Khouri. Do either of your sisters currently practice yoga?

Hi Jean - I did find the right studio, but had to delay beginning due to shoulder surgery I was supposed to have last fall before my priorities took a sudden shift. I am eager to begin and impatient with my doctor who tells me I must wait until I am healed or I'll be back in his office.
So I must be patient - one of my lessons in all this.
I'll be in San Diego in May for a weekend. Perhaps if your schedule permits we can meet over a cup of tea, as I will not be ready to take your class.
Hi Jean - Yes, I found the studio I like, but found out I couldn't wait for shoulder surgery - before I can begin the yoga. I'm disappointed I couldn't begin right away. It was supposed to be taken care of last fall, but had to change priorities. I figured my life was more important then my shoulder.
I'm otherwise doing very well and getting stronger with each day. I'm pursuing my photography - or I was - more aggressively and loving life all the more. I am very eager to be able to hold a camera again.
I'll be in San Diego in May, over a weekend, if your schedule permits, perhaps we can meet for a cup of tea.

I'm thinking of going to a new studio in Englewood called Bamboo Moves.
