I am so happy that you had that available to you. It really does help and I wish more people would be able to have that opportunity. Thank you for contactng me.
Jean:
Thank you for the kind words. We have offered yoga classes and qi gong. I am now looking at one-on-one instruction for patients, as it is often difficult to get enough patients to attend a class on any given day. Patients have received tremendous benefit from these integrative services including acupuncture, oncology nutrition education, massage therapy, hypnotherapy, humor therpay, guided imagery, yoga and gi gong. I am always exploring new exercise modalities for patients and families.
Thank you for your kind words. So far the job has been all i hoped it would be. Now if I could just find a gentle yoga class once a week i think i'd be pretty content. i'm sure one will turn up soon.
Just wanted to let you know that I am going to start doing a 'Yoga for Wellness Transformation' workshop starting ont he 15th with a local yoga studio. I am very excited. The studio offers a 'personal yogi' consultation and I had the chance to talk to one of the instructors about my health goals and my fitnesss level and she recommended the workshop. She is the owner of the company and was kind enough to donate the cost of the offered 'Yoga Bear' sessions towards the workshop to help defray the cost. It sounds like an amazing four weeks. I will keep you posted!
Hi Jean,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am hoping that yoga will give me the strength and flexibility to get back to my life. I am hoping to enroll in yoga classes soon. I have also visited yoga4cancersivivors and planning to purchase the cd as well. Thanks for reaching out!
Lori
Thank you. I am trying to find a yoga class but there is not one in Houston so I don't know. I have a brain tumor and also scoliosis, and have found that yoga really helps for my balance and just makes me feel so much better. I saw something on dahn yoga and how it is supposed to help with the brain, but I'm not sure I understand the differences between different types? I am wanting something that is not too hard core because I do have balance and dizziness issues. Any suggestions?
hey Jean, thanks for the sweet note. I really only signed onto this site because I thought it was going to direct me to participating yoga studios. Do you know where to find that info?
wishing you many blessings

Dear Andra,
Yes, the 'unknown' is quite a challenge. And, since we are all so individual, it is possible to know what others have experienced, and still, we do not know what will happen to 'us'. For me, the effects were not immediate, and
they were cumulative. You may have very little immediate effect and usually, it is a 'flu like' feeling, as our immune systems go into action!
I do believe, you will find, that after the first treatment is over, you will know more and feel a lot better. Chemotherapy is no different than going in for other IV treatments, it is compounded with all the emotions we bring and how we are facing the each otherTiger&Pele, and are we ready.
The medicines that help with side effects have come LIGHT YEARS!!! I have known many breast cancer warriors, including my sister and some dear friends, all survived and are surviving!
I will call you or feel free to call me.
I had twenty six weekly treatments, I asked my friends to take me and we had lunch before the treatment and then they took me home. It gave me my power to approach the treatments as healing sessions with friends.
The unknown is always the most difficult part. Remember the feelings of waiting for diagnosis. Once you got the results and a plan, you've taken off and done extremely well! I have every confidence that you will do this for your first chemo. I remember telling the angel nurse that administered my chemo how afraid I was, she held my hand, told me I was going to be fine. That's what I'd do if I were next to you!
Courage is not the absence of fear; it is having fear and moving through it with faith. I know you have courage and faith.
Blessings! Healing Light of Chemo!
Jean
Hi Jean- I start my 1st chemo treament on monday. I am preparing and having a challenge finding that balance between being prepared (physically and emotionally) and "letting go" at the same time- which i find is required during this journey to remain cancer free. learning about all the side effects (soe of which i know i will experience, some of which is a possibility). I think the anticipation of chemo is what is the most difficult for me right now. gathering my strength and my inner love for myself is what is required -along with the love and support of my close friends and my husband. I thought Id share my thoughts with you. Sending my love and hope you are doing well. Say Aloha to lelani for me.-Andra
Hi Jean- Thanks for the bear hug! I am actually loving the lightness and look of my new hair cut now. I'm going to the ACS to select a free wig from the wig bank- and might have it cut the same style as my hair. I don't know if I will wear a wig, but it makes me feel better being prepared. I went to an integrative oncologist yesterday and got some good advice as to certain supplements I can take during chemo (that wont effect the drugs) and I'm going to a nutritionist friday to learn more about "food as medicine". I am much more aware of how one's body is truly a temple- and it depends on what you put in it and how you treat it-that determines your quality of life. I hope you are doing well and sending light and love to you!-Andra
Hi Jean, I got my hair cut on saturday. I had a week of intense grieving over my hair- then purposefully made it a joyous event by bringing y husband and some close girlfriends with me for the hair cutting. My hula sister and I did a Hawaiian chant to Laka- goddess of Hula- to help me overcome obstacles and to give me protection. She gave me a beautiful hibiscus flower head lei to wear before and after. We also did some hula and then went out to dinner. I really love my new hair cut- it's kind of 20's style and looks great with hats. I put my braids in a special tin box with some healing stones and it's on my altar. I need some time with it before i decide wheteher or not to donate it. As I've never cut my hair since I was 5 years old- I am needing time to process this. I feel good about how we had my hair ritual- and it made me feel I have intention and joy in this transformation- instead of feeling forced to do it.
If I do experience side effects and lose my hair- my husband and my mom siad they wanted to shave their heads too. (I didn't ask them to- they announced this to me).
I have my 2nd opinion with an integrative oncologist tomorrow- then probably start chemo treatments 1-2 week of june.
I will give Lelani a call sometime this week to let her know about my new hairstyle!
Sending Love,
Andra
If 6 months makes me a native Californian I guess so.
I really love music. That's one of the few things Hollywood gets right. Life should have a soundtrack.
The tech stuff isn't too bad if I could figure it out. Takes a little time though. I used Playlist's free service but there are others. It allows you to make several playlists and edit them. They don't have every song but they have a lot. Once you have a playlist you just copy and paste into your page like you would do with a banner. It is is a little time consuming like most tech stuff.
I've actually been to San Diego ... and I ... don't actually remember it ... I was born at the Naval base but we moved to Panama when I was 6 months old ... so I don't remember San Diego but I hear that it is nice.
Take care and keep up your wonderful work. :)
Best wishes
Always

Jean- I just had a phone conversation with Lelani. She is an amzaing person and now I have a hula sister in San Diego! I am deeply moved by her journey and her experience regarding her hair and how she envisioned her treatments . This has helped me enormously. Thank you so much for being the important "bridge" connecting us. Here is my personal email- if you or Lelani ever want to reach me this way. Aloha!-Andra andra@brianbowesart.com

Thanks for welcoming me! Yoga Bear seems like a great place. I am brand new to it, but it feels like the right place for me to be.
